According to the Mayo Clinic: Hypereosinophilic (hy-per-ee-o-SIN-o-phil-ik) syndrome (HES) is a group of blood disorders that occur when you have high numbers of eosinophils — white blood cells that play an important role in your immune system. Over time, the excess eosinophils enter various tissues, eventually damaging your organs.
According to Leukemiacare.org: Chronic eosinophilic leukemia (CEL) is a rare myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN). MPNs are chronic disorders where the myeloid stem cells in the bone marrow make too many abnormal red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets which do not function properly. In the case of CEL, too many eosinophils are being made. Because the increase in the number of eosinophils is unexplained, it is actually known as chronic eosinophilic leukemia
